Don't Think Nightstands Have to Match

April 7, 2023

Sometimes you might prefer a more eclectic aesthetic in your bedroom. Instead of opting for matching nightstands, why not go with mismatched ones? Not only will this add an eye-catching element to the space, but it can also help keep things looking tidy.

Mixing and matching styles is a popular way to decorate bedrooms today, but it can be difficult to know how to do this without going overboard.

Many people feel the need to match their furniture for a harmonious and balanced atmosphere in a room, but if this idea doesn't sit well with you, don't fret!

It is essential to remember that nightstands can still help create an organized and well-decorated room. Just make sure you select a pair that complements each other in terms of style, material, and finish.

Similar shapes and sizes are an effective way to achieve this look. For instance, a round bedside table will look great alongside a square nightstand in the same finish, creating a seamless transition from one piece of furniture to the next.

When selecting nightstands for your bedroom, the size of the table you choose can have an impact on how they blend with the rest of the design. If your bed frame is large, larger nightstands will be necessary to accommodate items stacked atop them; on the other hand, smaller frames allow for more delicate tables that won't overpower your decor.

Create a sense of harmony and symmetry by pairing two nightstands that are at the same height. This works especially well if your bed is placed to one side of the room; with two nightstands set at this height, visitors entering your bedroom won't notice much difference between them.

One way to add some flair and variety to your bedroom decor is by mixing and matching different sizes and shapes. For instance, you could have a full-sized nightstand with drawers on one side, followed by a smaller round bedside table on the other.

Saving space and having a functional nightstand on either side of your bed can help you maximize the space. For an even more creative look, try having two identical nightstands with different sizes and finishes.

Some of the most common mistakes people make when designing their nightstands is to choose materials with similar colors but different finishes. While this can create a unified and cohesive look in your space, it could also appear too over-the-top for other parts of your bedroom.

Instead, opt for a mix of wood types in neutral tones that will easily coordinate with the rest of your room. You could also mix metal and wood finishes, or go all-out with wooden and stone finishes for a more contemporary aesthetic.
