Batch New Southern Kitchen and Tap is a harmonious synthesis of Southern flavors, featuring both modern creative cuisine and Prohibition-era cocktails. At its opening last fall on Clematis Street in West Palm Beach, Batch Hospitality introduced their second concept (they already offer Gastropub restaurants in Miami and Delray). From its light bulb-strewn ceilings and cozy booths to the expansive outdoor patio with views of an entire city block, every detail at The Light Bulb Cafe has been carefully considered to create an environment in which guests feel at ease and at home. But the restaurant is also designed to inspire discovery--its menu offers dishes like Southern Snapper on crispy grit cake with Maque Choux; and mac-and-cheese the size of your head that allows customers to customize it with anything from 12-hour brisket to pecan wood-smoked bacon add-ins.
Batch stands out among other upscale modern Southern restaurants by prioritizing both experience and food for their guests. Most ingredients on their menu are produced in-house from root beer and ginger beer to signature cocktails and sauces and toppings; any items they cannot produce themselves they partner with local makers such as Prescribed Gin, Pumphouse Coffee Roasters Swank Farms BeeMade Honey etc for.
At this restaurant, garden-to-glass cocktails include the Blackberry Lemonade made with Buffalo Trace Bourbon, fresh lemon juice and blackberry cardamom syrup; New Southern Mule with Laird's Applejack 86, lime and ginger beer; and Toasted Pecan Whiskey Sour with house-made spiced bitters and toasted pecan moonshine. In addition, their bar offers an extensive selection of American-born whiskey brands both rare and well-known alike.
At dinner rush, a team of hosts greet guests by name and lead them directly to their tables; once at their tables they introduce each dish as it arrives from the chef and introduce any necessary service staff as appropriate. Their attentive yet unobtrusive service was truly delightful - everyone I encountered within this restaurant was extremely pleasant!
Batch is also known for offering delicious brunch fare, featuring comforting favorites like their decadent S'mores Waffle (complete with marshmallows, chocolate drizzle and burnt orange graham cracker crumble) as well as more filling savory offerings like their Hangover Hash which includes brisket burger, white cheddar jalapeno grits with A1 Aioli peppers crisp potatoes crisp potatoes plus a shot of beer!
Batch New Southern Kitchen and Tap is an exciting, fun-focused version of Southern cooking and cocktails, making them the ideal addition to downtown Palm Beach. Targeting young, more millennial diners moving into the area, their focus lies on food and fun - I can't wait to return and sample their menu and sip on one of their delectable cocktail creations (Image credit: Batch). Make sure you follow them on social media - Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc for updates - not forgetting their website for information regarding brunch special events!
