Choosing the Right Wardrobe Size

June 6, 2023

Wardrobes are an effective way to keep clothes neatly organized, and there are various configurations to meet your specific needs. A standard depth for multipurpose drawers should be eight inches; this provides enough storage for high heels, flat shoes and running shoes.

Women's wardrobes require a vertical clearance of 66-72 inches in order to hang long dresses and kurtas properly, with open shelves providing folded clothes storage at 12-15 inches from one another.

Size of the room

Before selecting a design for your wardrobe, take note of its intended location in terms of room size. This will influence whether sliding or hinged doors are chosen and, ideally, should provide enough storage space to cover both summer and winter clothing needs.

Consider how much space you require for drawers and shelves. For example, if you plan on storing suits and coats in your wardrobe, its depth should measure approximately 28-30 inches.

On hangers, long dresses and kurtas should have an optimal vertical clearance of 66-72 inches; for saris and tops a minimum clearance of 40 inches should suffice. Also important is considering how many drawers will be necessary to keep undergarments, socks and handkerchiefs organized while adding aesthetic value to your walk-in wardrobe.

The number of clothes you want to store

An organized wardrobe is key for keeping clothes organized and looking neat, making deciding what to wear much simpler. In general, for hinged wardrobes you should aim for four feet width by seven feet height while six ft width for sliding wardrobes should suffice.

To choose an optimal wardrobe size, it's important to take into account both your environment and lifestyle. People living in four-season climates require larger closets than those who experience only seasonal temperature shifts throughout the year.

Consider your frequency of clothing wear. Aim to only include clothes you use frequently in your wardrobe; track how often each piece has been worn to get an idea of the number you require. Furthermore, leave space in your walk in robe dimensions for drawers and shoe storage such as multipurpose drawers at eight inches deep while four to six inch shelves can store sneakers, sandals and high heels easily.

The type of clothes you want to store

Your clothing choices can have an effect on how large of a wardrobe you need. For instance, if you tend to opt for formal attire more frequently than casual wear, more closet space might be required. Furthermore, depending on where you live seasonal changes could necessitate more room for winter clothing storage needs.

As part of your wardrobe design plan, it is also important to consider the depth of drawers and shoe cabinets you plan on adding. A standard depth for multipurpose drawers should be around eight inches while shoe cabinets should feature heights between six to seven inches.

Last but not least, select appropriate hangers for your closet. Hangers that are too small may cause wrinkles while too-big hangers could create shoulder bubbles if your garments hang incorrectly. Finding wardrobe dimensions suitable to you and following these tips is the key to creating clutter-free yet visually appealing spaces - be sure yours looks good while being well organised according to your lifestyle!

The type of furniture you want to use

Your choice of wardrobe furniture can make or break the aesthetics of the room. A wardrobe should be durable yet beautiful to complement the rest of the decor in the bedroom, providing enough storage for all of your clothing while remaining easy to keep clean and maintain.

Solid wood wardrobes can last a long time with proper care and are also reasonably priced, making it suitable for customization with shelves and drawers that meet your specific needs. However, if weight concerns are an issue then considering lighter materials like MDF might be better options.

Sliding doors may take up less space than hinged ones and reflect light to make your walk-in robe appear larger, helping keep everything tidy while making clothing appear more appealing. These sliding doors come in both glass or stylish wood grain options to complete the effect.
