Electric car battery spare parts: maintenance tips and tricks

In this new blog entry, we will give you a series of simple tips so that your electric car's battery lasts as long as possible. Although here we will talk about 12V batteries, it must be taken into account that when we talk about 24V, 36V or 48v lithium ion battery, it is two 12V batteries or three 12V batteries connected to achieve said power.

What charge must I carry out when the car is new, and I just bought it?

Before the first use, a charge of about 4-5 hours must be carried out so that the battery takes a full charge. All children's electric cars carry a small charge from the factory, but it is not enough to start the game in a lasting way, so it is necessary to recharge the battery as soon as you buy it. Having a small charge, it should not carry out a long-term charge. Some instruction manuals indicate 8 or 12 hours, which is incorrect for a first charge.

What happens if I mistakenly charge the battery for too long?

It depends on how much the charge has been; if you charge the battery correctly, the digital charge indicator should not reflect more than 14, which already implies some overload (12 of 12V would be normal). If there is more, do not take any action. You can send more electricity than is appropriate to a button, for example, damage the tape, charge the electrical sound system, and try to discharge the battery a little. It is recommended that the indicator not exceed 13 and allow a few minutes to pass before starting the car to avoid an overload since the battery could accumulate up to 21 residual volts. When starting, the vehicle discharges this voltage to the electrical elements, which can harm them.

What is the normal duration time of a battery in electric cars for children?

A 12V battery is a consumable and replaceable product; the same happens with adult cars. It has a limited duration; normally, there are about 300 cycles, about three hundred charges. You can also buy lithium batteries, which have a lifespan of over 4,000 charges.

I just charged the battery, which only lasted about 10 or 15 minutes, sometimes less. What's happening?

The battery is defective and is not normal. It usually lasts according to type, from 45 minutes to 1 hour and a half. This may have happened for the following reasons:

  1. Because the battery was charged longer than recommended.
  2. Because you did not wait for the battery to run down, it has been recharging for an excessive time.
  3. Due to the course of the life cycles of the battery.
  4. Normal Charging Time after first use

The charging cycles of a battery are approximately 8 hours as long as the battery is discharged. When the digital charge indicator indicates approximately 12.0, it will be charging, and you will notice it in the car as it will start to work with less force. At this point, the car should not be used until the battery is charged.

The autonomy of these cars is usually approximately 70 minutes, and if you have only used half of this time, you should only use half the charging time, about 4 hours.

When should I proceed with a full recharge?

It is recommended to drain the battery before charging it, and it is not recommended that it be charged after about 20 minutes of use since the battery will quickly lose autonomy and be unable to maintain the charge, so the car will not work.

Even so, if you charge halfway through the use of the electric car, please remember not to apply the 8 hours of charging.

We will not use the electric car for a while, because the weather is not good. What should we do?

When we store the vehicle for a long time, the battery must be at 100% charge and disconnected from the car's electrical system. We should look at the battery charge so that when it goes down, charge it so that it is at 100% charge.

The child wants to play longer. What can we do?

The battery of the electric cars for children must be charged with the car. You have the charging jump in the vehicle, so in principle, you must charge for 8 hours through the vehicle. Therefore at that time, the child cannot play the game.

Now, there are several possibilities:

  1. Have an additional battery fully charged so that when the first one runs out, it can be replaced by the second one. Of course, remember that the discharged battery has to be charged as soon as possible.
  2. Buy a fast 12V battery charger, which allows charging even outside the vehicle, so firstly, it can charge in much less time, and secondly, it does not have to depend on charging with the car connected to the network.

In the photo, there is an example of a fast charger (not marketed by PEKECARS), which is one of the most complete on the market and whose main characteristics are the following:

- Smart charger for car batteries, tractors, vans, boats, motorhomes, etc.

- Ideal for carrying out a full charge and achieving the best maintenance of the state of your batteries.

- Protected against overloads, polarity inversions, and short circuits.

- Voltage: 230v 50hz.

- For 12 V batteries with a capacity of 6 – 200 Ah.

- Insulation class: II

- Efficiency: 15 A

- Charge amperage 2/6/10/15 A

- Automatic

-Digital

- Intelligent

- Full charge indicator.

- Battery not connected indicator.

- Bad battery indicator.

- Microprocessor.

- Recommended for deep cycle batteries.

- Charging cable with insulated clamps.

- Weight: 1.9 kg.

- Ensures up to 100% of lead, liquid, or gel batteries charge. (WET/GEL/AGM)

We hope this post has been useful for you so that your battery has the longest possible life and your child enjoys hours of play.
