how to build a fire pit

Fire pits provide an inviting place for outdoor relaxation. From roasting marshmallows with your children to taking advantage of quality reading time, they're an indispensable addition to any garden.

An effective fire pit requires three elements for proper combustion: heat, fuel and oxygen. To create a lasting fire, you need to know how to balance these three factors effectively.

Make sure the wood has been properly dried and cured to prevent moisture build-up. Kiln-dried firewood is best, since this method involves heating it in an oven specifically to remove moisture.

Gena Lorainne of Fantastic Services advises selecting an ideal spot for your fire pit as the first step of setting it up. She suggests digging out a circle in the ground at least 15 feet from any structures or materials that could potentially catch fire, such as wooden surfaces.

Make sure that a two-inch area around the perimeter of your hole has been cleared out, then spread a layer of river rock over this space to provide support and complete your fire pit look. This will prevent it from shifting while creating an attractive finished appearance.

Rebuilding Your Walls

Once your walls are complete, use beads of construction adhesive between each layer of blocks and secure them into place with construction adhesive beads. This step ensures your walls won't crack under high temperatures found in a fire pit environment.
