How to Create a Faux Fireplace

June 6, 2023

Add architectural appeal to a long living room wall by building a faux fireplace as part of a DIY project. Integrated into this faux fireplace can also be a TV. To give it an inviting appearance, surround your faux fireplace with shiplap for an inviting appearance or paint it a vibrant hue for added visual interest.

Farrow & Ball's Down Pipe offers instantaneous illumination in any dark room. Or opt for white to add airiness.

Paint It

Painting a faux fireplace may be a challenging decision as it will be permanent, yet can create an exciting focal point in any room. Before taking this route, do thorough research on all possible colors as some might clash with existing paint and wood furniture choices or cause discord within your room. Get help from friends and family when in doubt as to which hue will work best; sometimes their input is invaluable!

For an elegant finish, tile your faux fireplace in an eye-catching pattern such as this pink herringbone design from Ohohdeco or go for the stone look with glue-on stones of different shapes and sizes for the best effect.

A mantel can provide the perfect setting to showcase your collections - be they casino chips or ceramic frogs. A mantel also makes for an excellent backdrop when creating holiday displays and showing off special pieces of artwork.

Add Baskets

If a fireplace isn't in your plans, adding an artificial fire can still bring warmth and architectural interest to any room. Designer Natalie Chong used a console table by Mkt to simulate the illusion of fire while mounting her TV for cozy viewing - it's a simple trick that works for modern as well as rustic interior decor styles!

Faux fireplaces make great places to showcase a favorite collection. A grouping of ceramic frogs would look wonderful next to a hearth, while old books may look stunning at the base of a mantel.

Mycarolinafarmhouse provides an impressive example of how a nonworking fireplace can be transformed by filling it with wicker baskets for added texture, as seen here. A pair of upholstered chairs makes the setup more inviting; wood slices or logs may also work to replicate the look of an actual firebox.

Add a Stack of Wood Slices

If you want a cozy fireplace that radiates rustic charm, try opting for a wood slice look. Available in various shapes and sizes, you can find one to suit your space perfectly - individually or as large strips with faux stone finishes!

Add twinkle lights for an easy way to bring warmth and ambience to your fireplace, giving it the appearance of real flames while making the space cozier.

Another fantastic aspect of this idea is its flexibility if ever you decide to change up the decor in your home, making this idea much simpler than moving a full-fledged fireplace! Plus, adding shelving inside of it provides extra storage space - ideal for displaying books and other items.

Add Twinkle Lights

Add some flair to your fireplace by filling its firebox with twinkle lights for an eye-catching effect that is sure to wow visitors to any cozy cottage style home or modern loft space. This look works best.

Use stacks of wood slices as decoration on your fake fireplace for rustic living rooms - such as this space from Our_House_on_the_Ridge - without all the mess, danger, and work associated with burning real firewood. A DIY project to add natural charm without all the work!

Faux fireplaces make an excellent addition to any home, even those without actual chimneys or flues. When real fireplaces can't fit, faux ones offer the ideal alternative. Customize it according to your own design by decorating it with mementoes that reflect your personal taste, then relax while basking in its warm glow!
