How to Hang a Heavy Mirror

how to hang a heavy mirror

Heavy mirrors must be secured carefully and safely when being hung. There are various hardware solutions and attachments that you can use depending on the wall material and weight limit of your mirror to achieve this aim.

Studs

Studs offer the easiest and safest way to secure heavy mirrors to walls. On drywall walls, just locate and screw into one near the top of your mirror; when hanging your mirror onto plaster walls secure its hanger in its center of one stud - though these locations might not always be ideal; make sure you use a stud finder to verify if any are secure!

D-rings are an ideal way to hang heavy mirrors, but hanging wire can also work effectively and quickly - providing it is the appropriate type and number of strips for the weight of your mirror.

French Cleats

A French cleat is composed of two interlocking pieces of hardware that form an effective hanging solution for heavy mirrors. It provides an efficient alternative to screws while offering more freedom in terms of mounting placement.

Anchors

To hang a heavy mirror on a brick wall, an anchor may be necessary. Options available to you include plastic sleeve anchors suitable for drywall and plaster as well as metal toggle bolts designed specifically to hold brick.

Step two is to identify your hanging location and determine the hardware required. A d-ring is typically used with mirrors; however, hanging wire or strap toggles may also work.
