how to repair drywall

Drywall is an exceptionally sturdy material, capable of withstanding years of wear and tear, yet susceptible to cracks, holes, and sagging. Though these issues are fixable with practice and skill alone, drywall repairs require skill as well.

Learning to repair drywall is an invaluable skill that will save money down the line, whether you are renting or owning. Becoming skilled at patching holes and making other common drywall repairs will allow you to address damage before it escalates further.

What You Need In order to begin the cleaning process effectively and avoid mold growth or structural issues later, remove all fixtures and personal belongings from the area where moisture could gather. This will prevent moisture being trapped under furniture and cause mold or structural issues down the line.

If the wall near an electrical outlet or phone line requires repair, make sure you inspect its interior to avoid hitting any wires when making repairs. Use your hands or flashlight to feel around its perimeter or peer inside with the flashlight beam.

What You Need

In order to prepare the wall for repair, begin by sanding any damaged areas to remove dirt or loose paint and make filling any holes more straightforward with drywall compound.
