Los Angeles is not known for being a fashion capital; however, LA Fashion Week was back with a fresh new facelift and schedule this past week! Rebranded as N4XT Experiences after taking over Style Fashion Week LA (which had taken over another group).
LAFW 2016 offered a diverse collection of runway shows and presentations that pushed boundaries of innovation, such as Imitation of Christ's avant-garde brilliance or Mother of Pearl's sustainable ethos or Theophilio's 90s hardcore rave aesthetic. Together these shows proved Los Angeles as an incubator of creative thinking.
Laura Theiss made an unforgettable debut, with her collection of luxurious silk dresses featuring crochet details, ruffled sleeves and striking hemlines. In addition, the designer showcased knitwear separates that could easily pair with these dresses to create day-to-night looks.
Numerous designers made repeat appearances, such as Sami Miro Vintage who hosted a film screening following its NYFW showing; Imitation of Christ designer Tara Subkoff from Imitation of Christ; Rio Uribe from Gypsy Sport label celebrating LGBTQ+ community for his Gypsy Sport label show; as well as other brands participating such as Claude Kameni who made floral-print dresses that looked more like extended basketball jerseys and Demobaza from Bulgaria which is known for deconstructed garments that invoke post apocalyptic desert themes through earth tone colors.
