kitchen in spanish

Every chef knows the importance of keeping their kitchen well stocked. From creating simple meals to more complex banquets, having access to quality cooking supplies can make or break an experience. In Spanish we use many words for different kinds of kitchens and the equipment that's required:

Cocina (IPA: /kona/): Cocina is the standard term for "kitchen," though its usage varies according to region and language. Latin Americans generally refer to cooking itself by the verb "cocinar", while "cocinero" (IPA: /ko-SEE-no/) refers specifically to professionals working within culinary fields.

Cubiertos silverware: one plate, one bowl, a knife, spoon and napkin holder

Practice Recipes in Spanish: Look for Spanish-language recipes you can easily follow to familiarize yourself with kitchen items you are learning about, while practicing your new skills. Make your own dishes from scratch to test out what you know! If possible, enlist friends or family who already speak the language to assist in helping to prepare meals so you can practice speaking while doing. You could also create flashcards containing the names for kitchen items so you can review them later at home.
