Using a saw, carefully cut along the perimeter of the pallet's frame to remove the slats. Avoid cutting through the nails or screws to prevent damaging the wood. Once all the slats are removed, use a hammer to remove any remaining nails or screws from the slats.
After dismantling the pallets, sand the slats thoroughly to remove any rough spots or splinters. This will also help the wood absorb any paint or stain you choose to apply later. Make sure to wear protective gloves and a mask while sanding to avoid inhaling sawdust.
Measure and cut the slats to the desired length for your project using a saw. You can make them all the same length or vary the lengths to create a more dynamic composition.
