The Silos Baking Co in Waco, Texas

January 4, 2023

The Silos Baking Co is a fun and quirky bakery owned by Chip and Joanna Gaines. You'll find the same chocolate chip cookies that you might remember from their coffee shop, plus a variety of cupcakes and donuts. If you're hungry for more, you can also try the Carrot Cupcake or the Tosted Coconut Cupcake. Regardless of your preference, you'll be blown away by the quality and taste of their products.

The Silos Baking Co has been a part of the Gaines' Waco business since 2014. In addition to their signature bakery, the couple has added a retail store and a food truck park in recent years. However, they are currently shuttered due to a coronavirus outbreak. That's not to say they aren't still in business; Chip is a telecommunications whiz and has plans to launch a TV cooking show of his own some time in the near future.

Although Silos is a destination in itself, the actual bakery is located in the Magnolia Market at the Silos. Inside, you'll be greeted by a striking building featuring a modern glass and marble countertop and an old-world feel. Outside, you'll find a large patio with plenty of seating and shade. A small restroom is located inside the building. There are larger ones outside near the food trucks, though.

The best part about the Silos Baking Co is the fact that it's open a little earlier than most shops in the area. For instance, the store opens at 7:30 am, whereas many others are only open until 6 pm. Plus, the prices are a bit better. At Silos, you'll pay around $20 for a half dozen cookies, and even less for a few dozen.

While you're there, you should stop by the Quaint Bakery, a small but tasty selection of pastries, breads, and pies. On the other hand, don't worry if you're a coffee snob. You can catch a ride on the free trolley that stops at both locations. As you're touring the various shops, you'll see the other silos including a garden, the signature bakery, and a retail store.

The store's tiniest accomplishment is its newest addition: a cake-like cupcake. These are the most enticing of the Silos's sweets, featuring an almond-flavored cake topped with a layer of almond buttercream icing. The recipe will be featured on the seasonal menu at Silos Baking Co. Lastly, the Silos has an old-school feel akin to a trip back in time.

Whether you're looking for the best breakfast in town or the most Instagram worthy cookies, you'll find it here. Moreover, you won't have to wait long to sample one of the hundreds of baked goods on offer. Just be sure to arrive early. Also, be on the lookout for a silos-worthy display of the big kahuna, which will be on display at the market's entrance for the next few months.

Finally, the Silos has something for the shopper on a budget. This includes two free parking lots and free trolley rides between the markets.
