Gerald Murphy was an American painter and designer who lived in Dallas for many years. Born in Massachusetts in 1888, Murphy and his wife moved to Paris in the 1920s where they became part of the vibrant expatriate community. Murphy is best known for his bold and colorful paintings, as well as his work as a furniture and textile designer. Some of his most well-known designs include the wallpaper and carpeting for the interior of the SS Normandie ocean liner.
