Choosing Fireplace Moulding Trim

December 9, 2022

Whether you are adding a new fireplace to your home or replacing an old one, the addition of a bit of fireplace moulding trim can really make your fireplace stand out. Not only does it provide a finished, polished look, but it serves the same decorative purpose as a frame in the fireplace.

There are several types of fireplace moulding trim to choose from. These include crown moulding, chair rail molding and stacked moulding. Depending on the style of your room, you can find the right trim for the job.

Crown moulding is often used for a decorative effect underneath a mantel shelf. When choosing crown moulding, consider the size of your fireplace. Usually, you'll want to make sure the crown is at least three inches wide, and that the inside length is about three and a half inches long. You'll also want to consider the 45 degree outside angle of the crown molding.

You'll also want to look for crown molding that is built up instead of molded. This gives the moulding a layered, more detailed appearance.

Stacking the fireplace moulding trim is a great way to achieve a cohesive look. It can be used to create a more sophisticated look by combining elements like dentil molding, fluted trim and crown molding. The combination of materials adds texture and depth to the room.

The fireplace is usually the focal point of a room, so it's important to choose a trim that compliments your design. A good way to do this is to match the color of the baseboards in your room. You can also choose decorative accessories to finish the look.
